OMS girls' wrestling started off strong with their first meet being extremely exciting and successful! “Step on the mat believing you’ll win every match.” - (OMS girls wrestling team motto)
This is the second “official” year of girls wrestling, and the amount of wrestlers has increased dramatically this season with a total of 7 wrestlers. The OMS girls’ team love being able to use their athletic abilities to take down other teams. Competitiveness is a common characteristic among the team and many use this to their advantage. “Some of my favorite and most memorable moments from the season so far have been cheering on my teammates and making my opponents cry!” states, Lillie Schwager, OMS second-year wrestler. The girls on the team are driven and enjoy the tough competition.
The girls claimed wrestling as the most supportive sport with the best atmosphere. “There is an unbelievable amount of support from teammates and coaches, and we support each other no matter what. Everyone on the team connected very quickly, creating friendships that will last a lifetime,” commented Addilyn Plathe and Lillie Schawger, OMS eighth grade wrestlers. Knowing that our atmosphere is encouraging and comfortable is fantastic!
Not only have the girls’ learned how to support each other in every way possible, but they’ve also learned many new skills and techniques. In wrestling, it is important to keep learning and putting in maximum effort in order to achieve goals, and our team has been doing a great job at that! The coaches are constantly reminding them to keep their heads up and to have a great time; win or lose.
The next meet is THIS Friday, December 1st at Okoboji High School and we hope to see you there to cheer on the girls wrestling team!
